Changing units of measurement settings

Choose whether to use Imperial or Metric measurements in Buildxact, including for takeoffs and AI-powered tools.

Written by Matt Govett

When you create a Buildxact account, your default system of measurement is set based on your region. For example, North American accounts default to Imperial.

You can change your measurement preferences depending on how you work. Takeoffs can support both Imperial and Metric, while Buildxact's AI tools use one selected system when generating estimates and other content.

Watch the video below to see how units of measurement work in Buildxact.

System of measurement for takeoffs

You can work with both Imperial and Metric measurements when completing takeoffs. This means you can use Metric measurements on an Imperial plan, or Imperial measurements on a Metric plan, depending on what you need for that project.

Steps to alter these settings:

  1. Click My Business in the left-hand menu.

  2. Select Business Details if the page doesn't open there by default.

  3. Under Other Settings, find System of Measurement.

  4. Select Imperial and/or Metric

  5. Click Save to apply your changes.
