How do I set up 2-step verification/multifactor authentication (MFA)?

Steps on how to set up 2-step verification for your account; the authenticator apps we recommend; and how to request a login code via email.

2- Step Verification adds an extra layer of security to keep your Buildxact account and data safe, making it harder for an unauthorized person to gain access to your account. When you have 2-Step Verification enabled, you will be required to enter a verification code that is sent to you each time you log in to Buildxact.

When setting up 2-Step Verification, you will be prompted to download an app on your phone which will provide you with a randomly generated code to prove your identity.

You may also select to set up 2-Step Verification via email instead of using an authenticator app.

Setting Up Two-Step Authentication

  1. Retrieve the QR Code: If you are setting up 2FA for the first time or need to reset it, contact support to reset your authentication setup. On your next login, follow the prompts to access the QR code screen.

  2. Use an Authenticator App: Open a supported authenticator app (e.g., Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator) and scan the QR code displayed on the screen. Do not use a generic QR code scanner or your phone’s camera app, as these will not work.

  3. Complete the Setup: Enter the one-time passcode generated by the authenticator app into Buildxact to finalize the setup.

Recommended Authenticator Apps

The following are industry standard authenticator apps which can be used on your mobile device and are supported by Buildxact:

Troubleshooting QR Code Issues

  • QR Code Not Linking: Ensure you are scanning the QR code within a supported authenticator app. If the QR code is still not linking, reset your 2FA setup to generate a new QR code.

  • QR Code Not Visible: If you do not see a QR code during setup, continue through the prompts until the QR code screen appears. If the issue persists, contact support for assistance.

What if I don't have access to my phone?

If you have lost access to your phone, this is how you can request your 2-step verification code to your email.

At the 2-step verification screen, select Try another method.

You can then select "Other ways to receive your code" and choose email as your preferred method.

You will then receive an email with the code for you to use.

  • Use Recovery Codes: Enter a saved recovery code to access your account. Keep these codes secure, as they are essential for account recovery.

Note - do not record this code anywhere as it recycles every 60 seconds, similar to your phone's authentication code.

Important Notes

  • Device Linking: Each Buildxact login can only be linked to one device at a time. Resetting 2FA will break any existing links and invalidate previously saved recovery codes.

  • Shared Logins: If multiple users share a login, only one authenticator link can be active at a time. Resetting 2FA will deactivate the existing link.
