This article is specifically about the printing of PC/PS/Allowance items on the PC/PS/Allowances tables on your quote.

Differences across regions

Depending on what part of the world you're in, your screen will look slightly different at this point, you will also have different default settings.

  • North American users will use the "A" button. A standing for "Allowance"

  • Users from Australia and New Zealand will use the "P" button. P standing for "Prime/Provisional"

What is the thinking behind the PC/PS/Allowance tables

These tables exist on the quote solely to inform your client of the amount allowed for an item for which the cost is not yet fully known. For example, you may have an appliance where the client is going to select their own and needs to know how much they can spend.

What options do I have for printing this table

You are provided with few options that will help you choose how to display your PC/PS/Allowances items on your Quote Letter.

You will be able to access a drop down menu for PC & PS display separately. The drop down menu will provide you with 3 options,

  1. Base Total (excl. tax) - You can choose this option to show the total of PC/PS items without tax. Below are the screenshots from both Buildxact Customisable Layout and Buildxact Print Only Layout

This is the default setting for North America.

  2. Total (incl. tax) - you can choose this option to show the total of PC/PS items with tax. Below are the screenshots from both Buildxact Customisable Layout and Buildxact Print Only Layout

This is the default setting for Australia and New Zealand.

  3. Full Breakdown (incl. tax and markup)- you can choose this option to show the total of PC/PS items with both tax markup values, this will add additional columns in the tables to display tax and markup values. Show markup percentage on allowances list:

By default this setting will be toggled off for all users. All screenshots so far in this article have this toggle turned off. You will be able to toggle it on if you would like to show markup percentage on PC/PS items on your Quote letter.

If you have the option to show markup switched on, then your PC/PS/Allowances item table will show the amount of markup added to that item.

The percentage we show considers the status of the redistribution buttons used also, so a C (redistribute within Category) or an E (redistribute within the whole Estimate) item will never indicate that markup is added whereas the markup percentage for N (don't redistribute markup for this item) items will include markup moved from other items also.

Below we've shown the estimate costings screen next to the printed PC/PS/Allowances table to try and illustrate this.

Buildxact tips for redistribution/print options for PC/PS/Allowances

1. We recommend using the same setting for all PC/PS/Allowance items rather than having some set to N and others set to C/E. Reason for this is to avoid high markup percent being shown for only some items on the PC/PS/Allowances table.

2. If you're not sure which redistribution setting to use for PC/PS/Allowance items, we recommend the C (redistribute within category) option, this is the default option.

3. Generally speaking, NOT showing the markup on the PC/PS/Allowances table is safer if you're not sure.
