How to Manage and Adjust Schedules and Task Durations in Buildxact

Buildxact provides flexible tools for managing schedules and task durations. This guide explains how to adjust schedule templates, edit task durations, and manage work item dates effectively.

Overview of Scheduling in Buildxact

Schedules in Buildxact are designed to automatically adjust based on the tasks they contain. The duration of a schedule template is determined by the dates of the first and last tasks. Adjusting these dates will automatically update the overall schedule duration.

Editing Task Durations

To edit the duration of a task:

  1. Navigate to the job’s Schedule tab.

  2. Click on the task (or category) to open the Edit Task form.

  3. Adjust the duration as needed.

Important Notes:

  • Task durations cannot be edited from the Dashboard edit form; changes must be made within the Schedule tab.

  • Parent tasks derive their duration from their child tasks and cannot be edited directly. To modify a parent task’s duration, adjust the durations of its child tasks instead.

  • Once a job is created, the estimate’s schedule becomes read-only. Make any necessary changes directly in the job schedule.

Adjusting Schedule Templates

The duration of a schedule template is automatically calculated based on the start and end dates of the tasks it contains. To adjust the schedule template:

  • Modify the dates of the first and last tasks in the template. This will automatically update the overall schedule duration.

Managing Work Item Dates

To change the dates or duration for work items:

  1. Expand the relevant category in the Schedule.

  2. Edit the start and end dates for individual tasks within the category.

  3. If the category contains no tasks, you can edit the category’s dates or duration directly.

Common Issues and Solutions

  • Unable to Edit Task Duration: Ensure you are editing within the Schedule tab and not the Dashboard. If editing a parent task, adjust the child tasks instead.

  • Read-Only Schedule: If the schedule is read-only, confirm whether the job has already been created. Changes must be made in the job schedule after creation.

By following these guidelines, you can effectively manage and adjust schedules and task durations in Buildxact.
